History of the Secwepemc People

The Secwepemc People have experienced many events in less than three hundred years. Epidemics, the Residential Schools, the Gold Rush, Fur trade, and various government policies have contributed to their decline and to their resilience. This is a testament to their endurance of adversarial conditions and their celebration of a lifestyle that still continues.
